Hello! I am Lori Winston. As a Montessori teacher for over 20 years, I was often requested to provide in-home support for families and their children (ages 2.5 to 6) experiencing behavior problems at home or in their preschool or school settings. I enjoyed watching these children learn to regulate their emotions, communicate effectively, and create peaceful homes for families with safe boundaries intact. I began to observe older siblings in many of these homes facing emotional challenges and sought a way to support them, so I returned to school and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Georgia State University. My degree has allowed me to expand my practice to include adolescents, young adults, and individuals, particularly women, to process their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a healthy, therapeutic manner and establish goals to maintain their well-being as they continue their life’s journey. I work with families, pre-teens, and teenagers (ages 10-17) who are trying to figure out their world, the people in it, and how they fit into their larger community; athletes (beginning, advanced, and elite) who struggle with anxiety and the stress of performing, women (ages 18+) who are at a crossroads in life, and many who are dealing with events from earlier periods in life. Many of my clients have experienced anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD, traumatic exposures, loss, oppositional defiant disorder, and a myriad of other emotional intrusions that can make life a bit more challenging. I incorporate many therapeutic techniques that are client-centered, CBT, DBT, and trauma-focused to equip clients with tools to become free of emotional challenges that have weighed them down.
I am a National Certified Counselor and meet the standards for practicing as a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor in Georgia (LAPC). I am currently working towards the requirements for certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). I find a great sense of purpose and satisfaction in my professional work. Attending church, spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, speaking at conferences, and conducting parenting education training completes the circle of joy in my life.
Lori Winston is under the clinical supervision & direction of Crissy Himelstein, MA, LPC, CPCS, RPTS.
